PhD student Cognitive Neuroimaging Business Management Career

Job description

The Academic Medical Center (AMC, Amsterdam) has a vacancy for a PhD student at the Department of Psychiatry. The aim of the project is to understand the role of GABA in the regulation of emotion and fear learning in humans. GABA is thought to be involved in the inhibition of fear, and GABAergic dysregulation may promote the development of anxiety disorders. You will combine fear learning paradigms with psychophysiology, genetics, and neuroimaging (functional MRI, MRS) to investigate how the GABAergic system regulates the neural mechanisms involved in fear learning. The project is funded by NWO and will be performed in collaboration with the KNAW Spinoza Centre for Neuroimaging.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly talented and dedicated PhD student with a (nearly completed) Master’s degree in a field related to cognitive neuroscience (e.g., biology, medicine, neuroscience, psychology). Excellent candidates from other fields are also encouraged to apply. Experience with functional imaging (e.g., SPM, FSL), psychophysiology (e.g., SCR) and experimental psychology (e.g., E-prime, Presentation, MATLAB) is desirable, but not required. You are well able to work independently as well as in a team, and are proficient in English.

Conditions of employment

We offer a highly challenging multidisciplinary research project for the duration of 4 years, state-of-the-art research facilities and excellent supervision. Compensation is according to the collective agreement (CAO-UMC) and amounts from EUR 2086,- gross per month in the first year to EUR 2673,- in the fourth year.

JRF Positions Business Management Career in Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute, India: Modern Biology and Biotechnology

The Discipline of Marine Biotechnology and Ecology of CSMCRI, Bhavnagar is actively engaged in multidisciplinary research in frontier areas of modern biology and biotechnology. Some of the ongoing/new research activities of the Discipline for which we wish to recruit 12 Junior Research Fellows are: Cloning and characterization of stress-responsive genes, promoter isolation and development of transgenic crop plants, Climate change and adaptation- coastal saline ecosystem, Mapping of marine biodiversity (seaweeds and marine microbes) using molecular tools and techniques, Genomics & metagenomics of marine microbes, Seaweed biology and cultivationM.Sc, first class in Botany/ Biotechnology/Biochemistry/ Microbiology. Category A Scholarships

Category A scholarships (third-country students) amounts to € 48.000 for two years.Third-country nationals, eligible for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, are citizens from all other countries than: the 27 EU member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Nederlands, Portugal, the UK,Sweden,Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain) and the EEA-EFTA states (Norway, Lichtenstein, Iceland ).

Cranfield University’s internationally recognised Centre for Water Science, in collaboration with Severn Trent Water, has an exciting MSc by Research opportunity for a motivated graduate to examine the processes responsible for producing greenhouse gases as a result of the biological treatment of domestic wastewater

The project will quantify greenhouse gas emissions emanating from nitrifying works when operated under different energy input conditions. This information will then be linked to the impact of meeting stringent discharge quality consents and minimising the industry’s carbon footprint.

The student will be primarily based at Severn Trent Water’s Research and Development in Coventry, with frequent interaction with both the Centre for Water Science at Cranfield University and various departments within Severn Trent. Embedded within the larger strategic partnership between Cranfield, Severn Trent Water and Atkins on wastewater research, the project will use the wastewater characteristics and performance information from Severn Trent Water, and be executed with assistance from key Severn Trent employees and personnel from Atkins Global Ltd. The project will involve significant field work activities as well as process engineering calculations and data analysis.

Anticipated Start date: November 2010

Volunteer Network (GVN)-World Wealth Foundation Scholarships business management career

The World Wealth Foundation is offering five scholarships in July 2010. Scholarships will include a GVN volunteer placement (up to one month) and a week-long GVN Be The Change Course.

The World Wealth Foundation provides opportunities to developing nations and those eager to help communities in need. Their focus is to help alleviate poverty and empower communities by providing them with self-sustaining opportunities.

The World Wealth Foundation is offering ten scholarships in June 2010. Scholarships will include a GVN volunteer placement (up to one month) and a week-long GVN Be The Change Course at one of our locations around the world.
